Service Offerings
Our Enlightened Governance engagements are intended to be tailored to your organization’s unique need - be it a brief overview of concepts, or a day-long workshop.
90-minute Overview
Our overview will introduce your Board to the three key fiduciary duties, and discuss how each plays a role in helping the organization:
make rational, well-informed decisions
avoid conflicts of interest (both financial and ideological); and
consider organizational strategies and policies with an eye towards legal compliance and protecting the nonprofit’s tax-exempt status.
Half-day Workshop
Our half-day sessions build on the foundational concepts of the Board’s fiduciary duties and allow directors to engage in case studies, discussion and practical application. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to practice methods of soliciting diverse viewpoints, and engaging in productive debate and persuasion to ensure that board decisions are well-informed and reasoned.
Boards may also choose to discuss and adopt codes of conduct that reinforce the importance of civility, viewpoint diversity and fiduciary duty in the execution of their work.
Full-day Workshop
Full day sessions build upon the content of half-day workshops and provide board members an opportunity to consider and develop specific governance policies that could include:
practices to ensure viewpoint diversity in board recruitment and training efforts
adopting a commitment to viewpoint diversity
adopting a policy of organizational neutrality
expanding the board’s conflict of interest policy to include ideological (as well as financial) conflicts
Full day workshops can also be tailored to address specific organizational topics or challenges.
